I've just hit the 9k barrier of my 15k disso and let me tell you it feels absolutely wonderful.
Having said that, I still have an eye-watering 5,000 words MORE to write than most people at my university but hey... no one said being a historian was going to be easy. Yes we can analyse the religious symbolism of 12th century tombstones or debate the significance of Stalinist policies in Communist Russia, but boy do we pay for it!! Whilst everyone else is out celebrating their hand in day, there we'll be... in the library, tapping away, arguing our little socks off until the cows come home.
But FEAR NOT fellow students, it'll all be over soon... (at least that's what I keep telling myself)!
As much as I can't wait to graduate, I don't think anything will prepare me for the day I have to say goodbye to all of my friends that I've spent the past 3 years of my life with. Even thinking about it makes my stomach churn. I'm genuinely going to miss everybody, even the people I wasn't particularly close with. My campus is so small so everyone knows everyone, even if it's a quick smile and a wave as you're passing between lectures. Of course there are days when you're fed up and all you want to do is go home, but the majority of the time, uni life is great and it's something you will never experience again. I wish I had more time to make the most of it before I leave but at the moment, it just isn't possible.
But it isn't all doom and gloom! Of course there's dissertation hand in day, followed by a night of mass vodka consumption and ridiculous fancy dress. Two essays, one presentation and one exam later and I'll be finished for good so I can go home, take a well-deserved break and appreciate some down time before the graduate job hunt begins! We're getting a new puppy, I'll have my car again and I can finally enjoy a few weeks of bliss before heading back to Notts for my Graduation Ball. I can't even explain how excited I am!!!
But for now, it's back to reality...
LET THE DISSERTATION, SEE THE WRITING!
