LIFE UPDATE | A NEW CHAPTER

DRESS | ZARA VIA DEPOP
HEELS | NEW LOOK

The day I graduated (23rd July 2014) was the end of one chapter in my life and the start of a new one. I had returned to the family home, all of my uni friends had moved away and I was left wondering where my life would go having to start completely from scratch again. It was terrifying at first but I found the not knowing quite exciting and I was looking forward to what the future might bring.

Things started off slow and although I had started working in retail, I was only getting a couple of shifts a week so I spent most of my time sat at home bored. I was lucky enough to be given my dad's car as a graduation present which enabled me to join a decent gym in town to keep me occupied, but I was still waiting for life to speed into action and for something exciting to happen. Luckily, things improved pretty quickly and before I knew it I was working 5 shifts a week and having to cancel my gym membership because I was so busy.

The New Look I work in is HUGE so it was inevitable that I was going to make new friends pretty quickly in a store that has 80 members of staff. I've been so lucky to meet a group of girls that I get along with really well and who are just as obsessed with fashion as I am! It can be hard sometimes to find people who are like-minded and have similar interests to you, so it's nice to step outside of your comfort zone every so often to meet new people who might make a massive difference to your life.

I was even more excited towards the end of September when 2 of my housemates moved back to Notts to start their Masters. I hadn't seen them since graduation so it's the best thing ever having them within walking distance again and being able to visit them whenever I want!  I've already seen them 3 times in 1 week which may be a tad excessive but heyyy who's counting. My other housemate was up at the weekend too and should be in Notts hopefully every fortnight so I'm basically the happiest person ever right now! It's good to have my girls back!

As well as working 5 days a week at New Look, I recently got offered a job as an event planning intern with the British Red Cross helping to organise the Humanitarian Citizen Awards. The event is held at the Palace of Westminster in London and recognises young people across the country who do amazing things from volunteering and fundraising to first aid and community action. Event management has always been my dream career and since leaving uni, I've decided to bite the bullet and just go for it. First on my agenda was to gain some experience because lets be honest, you get nowhere in this world without experience. If I've learnt one thing since uni it's that degrees count for nothing in the real world. So as of a few weeks ago until the end of November I will be working 7 days a week (5 days retail, 2 days internship) and trying my very best not to feel too overwhelmed by it all. It's been tiring but I've not been doing too bad so far. Sometimes you've just gotta do what you gotta do and hope it'll all be worth it in the end.

It took me a while but I finally feel quite happy with how things are going at the moment and what direction my life is taking. Change is good and wiping the slate clean and starting over is the best thing for all of us sometimes. Imagine how boring life would be if everything stayed the same and nothing moved forward? There's no point dwelling on the past (although I do really miss uni sometimes) because as that old saying goes "when one door closes, another one opens."

I hope this explains why I've been so absent from blogging the past few months. As you can imagine everything's quite hectic at the moment but I'm going to try my best to post as often as I can, even if it's just lifestyle posts. I miss doing OOTD's and I have so many outfits I want to post about, but at the minute I just don't have the energy to stand taking photos of myself.

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday!

  2. I know how the whole "graduating and not knowing what to do next" thing goes. I graduated almost two years ago now and I'm still trying to sort it out. It seems like so many people are dealing with that. Nice blog though. Let me know if you want to follow each other.
