STAYING POSITIVE DESPITE THE POST-TRAVEL BLUES

It's 11pm on a Tuesday night. I'm getting ready for bed when I randomly look down at my toes and admire my immaculate pedicure that my friend Nat treated me to for my birthday. It's been 11 days since I landed back in the UK after 9 months of travelling the world, 5 of which were spent living and working in Australia. It's hard to adjust to normal life in dreary old England again after almost an entire year of living an entirely different life. It's not easy, and suddenly those 'post-travel blues' you so frequently hear about hit you like a ton of bricks and honestly... everything feels a little bit shit.

But that brief moment I spent admiring my pedicure reminded me that there are plenty of things that have made me happy since I've been home and, seeing as I'm in a list kinda mood, I thought I'd be completely pointless and list them.

1. My shellac pedicure is the bomb and I literally have the prettiest feet ever right now

2. My room was decorated whilst I was away and I'm actually in love with it. My map of the world looks amazing now it's on a different wall, my travel souvenirs fit perfectly with the rest of my room and I'm loving my new obsession with blue accessories. You still got it guuuurl

3. Yes you can still drive like the bad ass, confident driver you were and tackle a 9 hour round trip to see friends after 9 months of not driving. Like a duck to water!

4. In my first 8 days back home I met up with my 'love interest' from travelling, my close friend from home, my student nurse friend for a hilarious night out in Bournemouth and my uni gals for a cute weekend away in Oxfordshire spent shopping, making our own pasta and drinking wine. Considering none of those people live anywhere near me (like seriously, I live milesssss from any of my friends) it makes me so happy that everyone made the effort to see me so quickly after I arrived home.

5. Watching Les Miserables with mum and wanting to cry with happiness whilst belting out the lyrics to 'Who Am I?' Bloody love that film.

6. Having a guaranteed job at a gym when I landed in the UK but having to turn it down last minute when my old manager got in touch offering me my dream position as a Content Writer. Nothing says positivity and 'welcome home' like 2 job offers!

7. My first English cuppa and bacon sandwich from a trucker cafe on the M1 on the way back from Heathrow. There are no words.

8. Admiring sunset after sunset and remembering how underrated and beautiful British skies are during the winter. Puts a smile on my face every time.

9. Seeing my dad waiting for me at arrivals pulling his Dr Evil face, followed by me bursting into tears of happiness.

10. Watching the shock on my mum's face when I knocked on the front door after 9 months of being away. One of my favourite moments ever.

I guess being home isn't so bad after all :)
