My very first post on this blog was about my uni bedroom here, but now I'm back home for the summer I thought I'd show you all some snaps of my room at home.
I've wanted to be an interior designer my whole life but the decisions you make when you're at school kinda determine which way your life will go. I was sensible and chose to study something intellectual at uni instead of something creative, a decision which I now regret hugely. It's never too late to change your career path, but interior design is such a competitive industry and I'm not much of a risk taker. I've researched it and it seems pretty impossible to get into interior design without having studied it or without having loads of experience. Of course I could pursue it if I wanted to, but something in me just doesn't want to take that risk when the chances of it paying off are very slim. I mean, how can I compete with someone who can draw/knows how to use all the design computer programmes/has experience in the industry. I just can't. It's a shame because (without being big headed) I think I'm pretty good at interior design, it just comes naturally to me. I can remember going to sleepovers at my friends house when I was around 11 and I would lay awake at night redesigning their room in my head. I know.. weird right? By all means, if anyone has any advice for me about pursuing a career in interior design then I would really appreciate it.
That said, I am by no means insinuating that I'm god's gift to interior design. You're probably scrolling through the photos of my room right now thinking 'pffft, it's not THAT great' and I'd completely agree. My room is definitely not perfect. It was my pride and joy before I went to uni, but these days so much of my time is spent moving between the family home and my student house during the easter/christmas/summer holidays that it's hard to focus all of my efforts on just ONE room. I spend the most time at uni, so more effort goes into my uni room. Now I'm home for summer, I've tried my hardest to make my room at home feel homely again but it's really difficult. Half of the time I can't even be bothered to unpack my bunting/candles/trinkets etc because I have SO much stuff that I don't even know where to put them! So what I'm trying to say is, I'm still not 100% happy with my room (it hasn't been decorated for around 3 years either and my taste has changed since then!) but I hope you like what I've done with it since I've been back from uni :)

oh, my, gosh. I am in love with your room! It's so girly and awesome. I've always wanted one of those beds:( I love how its so homely and cosy.

Awww thank you so much! :) I got my bed agesss ago but I think it was from Argos. It wasn't too expensive either, I think it was only around £100! It looks like a day bed when it's pushed up against the wall but it's meant to be in the center of the room really. I had to move it though because I didn't like how small my room felt when it was in the middle! I like my space haha! xx
Deleteahh such a pretty room, wish I could decorate it like you did,but mine is too small :(
ReplyDeleteNoooo don't be daft it doesn't matter how small your room is! My uni room next year is tiny but I'm planning on designing it exactly the same! A few cushions and candles can do wonders :) xx
DeleteYour room s gorgeous, mines such a mess. Can't wait to gt back to uni and decorate a new room x

Aww thank you so much! :) xx
DeleteYour room is so cool! When I went to college my parents moved my sister into my room and converted her room into the guest room, which I get to live in when I'm home. Sadly, I can't personalize it this much, but I too love throw pillows. Yours are so pretty and flowery; i love it!

DeleteWow, beautiful room. Really want to do mine out over the summer! And the owl cushion is gorgeous, I love anything owl haha!
ReplyDeleteAnd on the whole career thing, I hate how we are pressured to choose so early what we can to do in life when we barely know who we are, but remember you call the shots and can do anything you want, as long as you are happy now/in the future :) I'm not one for risks either (I'm a bit scared of everything haha) but I would say go for what makes you feel good :)

DeleteOh my god, this is what I daydream my future house looking like! so gorgeous, so perfect! I don't mean to be rude when I ask this, it's just out of interest, but how much does this cost? how are you affording this?! I am so jealous, cant wait to see what it looks like when you've finished!
ReplyDeleteAww thank you that's very sweet of you! My room was decorated about 3 years ago when I was at school so my mum and dad paid for it because my mum's really in to interior design too. I buy bits and bobs for my room all the time with the wages I earned when I used to work, my savings and my student loan. If I love something, I will buy it whether it's £3 or £30. Everyone spends their money differently, I spend mine on clothes and things for my room. Redecorating your room doesn't have to cost a fortune, especially when you can buy things so cheaply these days in Primark/Argos/Ebay. Dunelm Mill is one of my fave shops for interiors, it's SO cheap and has gorgeous stuff! So yeah definitely shop around because most of the stuff I buy for my room is relatively cheap :) xx
